catacombs!!

Jen and I had the day 'off' from class so we decided to visit the catacombs this morning, after getting a bit misplaced trying to find the entrance we finally found the line to the ticket booth.  We waited roughly an hour to get in, but that is to be expected, its a big attraction.

Stepping down 130 spiral steps can get one pretty dizzy and just as my world was starting to spin we arrived at the bottom of the quarry.  It was a 12 min hike though narrow dimly light passage ways while the anticipation grows.  Finally we arrived at a narrow doorway which opened up to the 6 MILLON deceased Parisians, all neatly stacked and arranged.  The feeling was, mysterious, morbid, slightly creepy, and peaceful all at the same time.  The ceiling was very low and at times I had to walk leaning forward as to  not hit my head on the rough stone above.  Visitors are not allowed to use flash photography, so that is why the photos are dark, but that just adds to the allure of the catacombs.

The total time it took for us to walk the catacombs was about an hour.  Jen and I went into a shop at the exit and enjoyed a shot of Absinthe.

Once we emerged street side, we enjoyed a nice lunch at a near by cafe.
