St. Eustache, St. Denis and the Cluny Museum.phew! long day!

Today class first went to the Cluny Museum.  Its on an ancient Roman Bath house foundation and they restored the building to include the original structure.  The walls captivated me.  To have so many layers and layers of civilization on top of each other is AWESOME!  The workers who created the walls of the bath took such care and time into each layer of brick, stone, rock and mortar.  The lines were straight as an arrow and to top it all off the exposed bricks were carved!  The museum housed mostly medieval art that had been collected by a wealthy family then denoted to the state.  The tapestry, "The Lady and the Unicorn", is housed there and it is glorious!  The attention to detail, the expression on the faces of the smaller animals; the rabbits, fox, the delicateness of the flowers is awesome.

After walking around the Cluny, we hopped on the metro to St. Eustache.  This church housed a Rubins' and a Keith Herring altar piece that was donated to the church by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

A few more metro stops later, and we arrived at St. Denis which houses all the kings, queens and children from the 1100's to the last king to rule.  All but 3 are housed there. Marie Antoinette and Louis the 14th bodies are there as well, their son Louis the 15th is the one that removed the bodies from the tomb that I was at yesterday to St. Denis to be among all the other French Royalty.
